Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, in partnership with the University of Buckingham, is a University Teaching Hospital; we conduct research and teaching on site to improve the care of our patients . The hospital is undergoing significant  investment and development including a new surgical ward, a new main entrance (allowing expansion of A&E services),  a new Academic Centre and a planned new Cancer Centre.

Job Title: Consultant Emergency Surgeon

Applications are invited to apply for a Consultant Emergency Surgeon post at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

We have 2 posts offering 10 programmed activities. Additional programmed activities may be available but these are subject to annual discussion and agreement and do not form part of the underlying contractual agreement.

Additional programmed activities may be available upon agreement.

The General Surgery CSU consists of 16 Consultants, 1 Associate Specialist, 9 Specialty Doctors, 4 SpRs, 4 Senior House Officers and 12 FY1s

The successful candidate will be expected to have full GMC Registered Qualification, a Medical Degree and FRCS or equivalent. Able to manage autonomously general surgical workload including the generality of Emergency General Surgery and have experience in Laparoscopic surgery. Experience in Colorectal Surgery and Endoscopy would be advantageous.

The successful applicant will be expected to participate in teaching both under and postgraduate students associated with the University of Buckingham and will also be expected to support colleagues doing these activities as part of his or her arranged job plan.

This is also an important step towards establishing the trust as a first class centre for teaching excellence. The first students arrived on wards in May 2015 and by the beginning of 2018 a medical school building will have been constructed, which will also create exciting opportunities in the future for all staff in the fields of clinical research and education.

This exciting new phase will include opportunities for undergraduate and post graduate teaching, enhanced research facilities. A teaching and research background would be highly advantageous when applying for this position.
