Staff Nurse – Specialist Gynaecology Outpatients

Department: Specialist Gynaecology, Outpatients

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

Are you passionate about women’s health and looking for a new and exciting opportunity to extend your skills and experience? We are seeking enthusiastic, highly motivated and dynamic NMC Registered Nurses to join our caring team within the Specialist Gynaecology Outpatient service. You will work closely with the specialist nurses, medical teams and other MDT members to provide clinics.

For this challenging and rewarding role you must have an interest in women’s health, be flexible and a team worker with good communication skills. You will be provided the opportunity to develop and increase your knowledge and skills in women’s health.

As a service we will support you to develop and provide opportunities for career and personal development.

 We are excited to watch the development of our new Women and Children’s Hospital due to be opened in 2024.

Main duties of the job

The successful postholders will play an integral part of the day to day running of the hysteroscopy, colposcopy and urogynaecology clinics providing high standards of care. You will be expected to provide a supportive role and contribute to the education, training, and experiences of newly appointed and existing staff in all aspects of the service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To be responsible for the unsupervised assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of plans of care, ensuring high standards of evidence-based care.
  • Supervise nursing practice and the delivery of patient care in accordance with NMC Code of Professional Standards and Behaviour and Trust Policies and Procedures.
  • Act as an effective role model and demonstrate effective organisational and leadership skills.
  • In the absence of the specialist clinical nurses take charge and be responsible for the day-to-day management of the clinics and health care assistants.

Qualifications and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse on Part 1 of the NMC Register
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Degree level qualification
  • Willingness to undertake further professional development/training
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of the NMC Code and professional guidance
  • Demonstrates knowledge of current issues in nursing
Desirable criteria
  • Assessing and mentoring qualification
  • NVQ Assessors course

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent clinical experience in an acute Trust
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrates sound clinical knowledge and up to date nursing practice with evidence of critical thinking and problem solving
  • Demonstrates patient focused approach
Desirable criteria
  • Experience with gynaecology and/or outpatient procedures
  • Experience of assisting clinicians with minor procedures and treatments
  • Evidence of facilitating learning in practice

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates evidence of delivering quality patient focused care
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written, demonstrating effective listening and engaging with patients and family effectively
  • IT literate

  • Evidence of competence in venepunture and cannulation
